Frequently Asked;;
-F.A.Q.
Is it Really easy to use?
TopStopTM becomes part of your routine.There is a slight technique adjustment, then you are good to roll!
Does the stop rod get in the way when you ink the roller?
The rod clears the rim of the tray nicely with a standard roller tray, and fits screens in a "5" as well as 2;1/2 gal Purdy tubs.
What about the stop rod hitting the wall on a full downstroke?
The stop rod swings fully back allowing a regular downstroke.
I use a special roller- will TopStopTM fit?
Usually. The rod channel fits rods up to 3/8" diameter, and the TopStop can also be attached at the middle or side.
You can get it to do its job from several angles, and the screws will accommodate thinner roller handle rods from imports etc.
What about crown molding?
The stop rod can be set to compensate for most moldings as well as various roller nap thicknesses.
Will it rust?
In short, no. TopStopTM is made from plastics, stainless steel, and aluminum. However, It's a tool and should be air dried or wiped when washed.
How should I use TopStopTM?
We recommend this method for typical walls;
1- First using a regular method cut in wall to a width of about 1-1/2" or wider (three fingers width should do )
2-With TopStopTM installed, roll short vertical "W" strips/rows, only about 15-20" high at the top of the wall. Go four or five feet wide or the whole wall depending on your paint's characteristics*.
3-Flip the stop rod and roll the remaining part of that same section from the top down.
PRO TIP - FOR THE BEST WALL FINISH WITH A ROLLER - NO BiDIRECTIONAL STROKES
(just roll from the top down or bottom up- but not both- .... we like top down)
How did TopStopTM come into existence?
"In Northern Ohio some home builders do not paint the textured ceilings in new homes.
I have had more than one helper tap the ceiling with a "loaded" wall roller, and then wipe it with a wet rag destroying the raw unpainted texture. oops!
(actually the helper said oops...I said something else)
For years I pondered that. Then, last year our daughter contracted a larger multi room job with a grid-type drop ceiling. She was concerned about the roller mark thing-
just the odds alone were not good.
Fortunately, inspiration arrived.... and I made this." Larry Kane- creator of TopStop
So can you teach an old dog new tricks?
I think so.
